A FEW PRACTICAL STEPS FOR EMPLOYEES
- Do not open attachments in emails from unknown sources unless you are 100% certain that they are authentic
- Also be aware that an email may be from a legitimate source BUT may contain suspicious content / links / attachments
- Ensure any Windows updates are installed (systems are set to download and automatically install but users can sometimes choose NOT to install these updates when shutting down)
- Data stored on your server is backed up daily to the Tape Drive and separate NAS Drive on the network but any other important “locally stored data” should be backed up and kept within unconnected storage (e.g. Portable Hard Drive / USB Memory Stick or Flash Drive.
PRACTICAL STEPS FOR USERS OUTSIDE YOUR BUSINESS/ORGANISATION
- Ensure you have a paid and up to date version of Internet Security Software
- Ensure your Windows operating system has the latest Microsoft updates applied
- Ensure your Internet Security Software is regularly updated and switched on
- Do not open attachments in emails from unknown sources unless you are 100% certain that they are authentic
- Also be aware that an email may be from a legitimate source BUT may contain suspicious content / links / attachments
- Ensure your software programs have the latest manufacturers’ updates applied
- Ensure your data (including documents, photos, music and bookmarks) are backed up regularly to an external device not connected to your system
- Never store passwords on your computer in case they are accessed by Gameover Zeus or another aggressive malware program
